My First 10K

I signed up to run the Disney Princess Half Marathon with some girlfriends in February. Come to find out you have to submit a qualifying time to get into a good corral and since I had no races under my belt in 2014 I signed up to do a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. The minimum distance to qualify was a 10k so I started training and figured if I could do four miles, surely six + wouldn’t be too much harder. Weeks went by and somehow the training plan I had set up for myself just wasn’t happening. The weather was nasty, my body wasn’t cooperating, I am lazy……lots of excuses haha Finally the morning arrived and I was freaking out. How on earth was I going to run a race I hadn’t trained for?? What had I gotten myself into? Why didn’t I train? Well, too late. It was race time! My girlfriend Shari picked me up and we headed to the course. She was planning to walk the 5k with her niece but we lined up together near the front of the pack. There were almost 2000 people running that day and I didn’t want to spend the first few miles trying to get around the pack.

For the first 2.5 miles I wondered if I could just somehow skip ahead on the course and walk through the finish line after an hour haha I kept trucking along though and between praise music and some internal motivation I pushed through. After four miles it was smooth sailing and I had settled into a very comfortable and manageable pace. I was chasing a lady the entire race and on the last hill she started walking. I tapped her on the shoulder and told her to keep going!! I had chased her this far, the least she could do was finish strong. I don’t know if she was annoyed or grateful but she picked up the pace and helped me bang out the last mile. I had finally pulled out my phone on mile 5 to see how I was doing for time and I couldn’t believe I was beating my goal pace by a full minute and a half!!! I had no idea what I would be able to do considering I hadn’t trained at all so to run under 12 min miles was pretty impressive. I know that’s slow as molasses for most, but I was thrilled!!!

I had no idea Linc, my sister Kristin, and little Nolie were waiting for me around the last corner! I was so thrilled to see them and even happier to run through the finish line a full 13 minutes ahead of my goal. I ended up placing third in my age group and it was an awesome finish to my first 10k!!!

Date Night to Melting Pot

My Aunt Sue offered up all the other adults to watch the littlest babies during Thanksgiving vacation so we could have a date night! My cousin Tricia and her husband Greg were in town all the way from Alaska and they left behind their son Finnegan so we could all catch up! We headed to the Melting Pot for an incredible dinner and lots of tipsy fun Winking smile Tricia is expecting her second baby in March and we probably won’t get to see them again for a few months. It was a very nice treat to get away for the evening!

Thanksgiving 2014

DSC_6452-1

I had the privilege of hosting my very first Thanksgiving ever and it happened to be in our new house! Seventeen adults and four children gathered around our festive table, broke bread, and shared stories long into the night. It was a lovely meal and I am so thankful for this incredible family.

Kolin Avery

Kolin

My newest nephew was born back in September but we didn’t get to meet him until Thanksgiving week. To say we were all obsessed would probably be a gross under statement haha He was so tiny and adorable and I told my girlfriend he was the first baby to ever give me the slightest inkling of baby fever. It only lasted a minute though, don’t worry Winking smile I would have definitely put him in my pocket and taken him home for a little bit if they hadn’t had to leave and drive back to New Jersey! We can’t wait to see him {and his precious big brother Cole} again for his baptism in February!

Thanksgiving at the Farm

FamilyPic

Leslie, Kolin, The Coles, Aiden, Alena, Ethan, Marc, Sherry, Bo, The Hams, and Madison

We spent a very quick and very rainy weekend at the farm to celebrate Thanksgiving with Linc’s side of the family. The Northern Hamiltons drove all the way from New Jersey for the celebration and we got to meet our newest nephew Kolin. The little boys had a blast playing together and bonding. We were able to snap a few cute family pictures on Saturday before the rain came in. It was the first time we were all together for a picture in five years! Only one nephew had been born back then so it was awesome to have an update and see how the family has grown!

Hamilton Boys Go to the Aquarium

IMG_2704

Meeting my sweet baby nephew Kolin for the first time!

When the “Northern” Hamiltons came down for Thanksgiving we were able to meet them halfway for a day at the aquarium. Nolie and I were quite smitten with our newest nephew/cousin Kolin who had just turned three months old. I didn’t take very many photos but glad we were able to capture a few moments with the littlest Hamilton bubs!

Thanksgiving at Preschool

Carter’s little class celebrated Thanksgiving with a big feast! Although parents are not invited, I snapped some pics of my adorable Indian after all the festivities. His nickname was “Bright Star’'” and he said his favorite part was getting Oreos for dessert!

Computer Projects and Other Fun Crafts

Boys

I haven’t worked on my own scrapbooks since long before Carter was born and had to find a way to channel my inner creative juices. I began teaching myself photoshop and over the years have really enjoyed learning how to use it for different projects. One of the things I have been creating lately is custom birth announcements for my friends! It is such a fun and easy way to document all the important birth stats that you want to display!

I love being able to present the parents with a custom sign while the baby

is still fresh out of the oven! It is such a fun surprise to bring to the hospital!

I have also done custom birthday invitations and stationary. A few months ago I had the chance to pull out all my old scrapbook materials and help my friend Halie create an incredible 40th Birthday book for our friend Beth. We collected letters and pictures from all the Baby Brigade mommas and made her an awesome keepsake that hopefully she will treasure for years to come!

We worked over 15 hours to create Beth’s scrapbook!
