Halloween 2014

IMG_1967

For an entire year Carter was adamant that he wanted to be Iron Man for Halloween. He never once waivered on his decision and my amazing friend Candace stepped up to once again make his costume. His little four year old dreams came true when his costume arrived in the mail and he was so proud to show off his super hero moves! Since Nolan didn’t have an opinion, I decided he could be the spider costume that my sweet mama made for Carter years ago. It was so funny because he kept saying he was Spider Man Winking smile He totally got the concept of trick or treating and loved going up to ring the door bells. Carter got tired a lot earlier this year so we called it a night and headed home. No sooner than we got inside, than the skies opened up and it stormed!! What good timing! We didn’t get any more kids after the rain (and only got 3 before hand) so we were stuck with 18 pounds of candy……yes. 18 pounds!!

Halloween Hiking

cat

On Halloween morning we met some friends to hike Sawnee Mountain. There was a cute little bench with some pretty fall foliage right where we were waiting for everyone arrived so I decided to try and snap a few pics of my boys before we got all hot and gross. For whatever reason this cat just HAD to be in our pictures and you can see from the progression above that Nolan was not having it!!!!!! He absolutely freaked out when the cat came near him and it was too funny not to document. Nolan was pissed and I couldn’t stop laughing. Sorry buddy!! Nolan finally realized he could just get off the bench and made a break for it. I would consider these some serious fall photo fails! Ha!

hike

At the top of the mountain my boys decided to set up an angry birds game using rocks and sticks. Love their little imaginations. And once we got down, just because I hadn’t tortured them enough, I tried for one more photo………………Sigh. Better luck next time hahah

Uncle Shucks 2014

UncleShucks

How Tall This Fall?

Every fall we have gone to Uncle Shucks Corn Maze and pumpkin patch. This year we brought our buddies Krissy, Nicholas, and Harrison for a fun day on the farm! Krissy navigated us over 3 miles through the corn maze and we managed to hit every checkpoint with four kids in tow! We stayed for a picnic lunch and hay ride and the little boys shot the corn cannon too! This was the first year I got a picture of Nolan in front of the “How Tall This Fall” sign and I can’t wait to compare next year’s photo to see how much he has grown!

Field Trip to Fire Station #2

IMG_2044

My Little Firefighters!

Carter’s class took a field trip to visit our local fire station. We got a surprise call the night before from a classmate’s mom that needed our help. They were closing on a new house and she had gotten the dates mixed up. She didn’t want her daughter to miss the field trip and asked if we would mind bringing her. She dropped her daughter off at our house the next morning and we were plus one more kid for the field trip! It was an interesting day, but all the kiddos had a great time!

Parker’s Posse and the Atlanta Buddy Walk

IMG_1924
Parker’s Posse 2014
The 17th Annual Atlanta Buddy Walk was on a gorgeous fall day at Centennial Olympic Park. For the third year in a row, friends gathered to celebrate and walk in honor of Parker and our great friends the Gordons. The event was created to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. We absolutely love Parker and his entire posse and were so glad to be able to walk beside them this year! I was honored when Shari asked me to design their shirt for 2014 and love how it came out! Tie Dye is their signature look and I was so glad to have a tiny part to show my love for their family!

First Annual Powder Puff & Chili Cook Off!

IMG_1867

Our neighborhood hosted its first annual Powder Puff and Chili Cook Off Competition in October! The men gathered their best recipes while the ladies suited up and hit the field for a friendly (but incredibly competitive) flag football game! There were four teams and we had regular practice, real coaches, and a professional referee on game day! I was on team white- nicknamed Team White Lightening- and we were set to play first. I was so nervous but as soon as we got underway I had a blast! We ended up winning our first game and moved on to the play offs! I managed to catch two touch down passes and snag an interception during the game! Not too shabby for my first time out! It was such a fun way to get to know some of my new neighbors and certainly didn’t hurt that we now have bragging rights for the next year! Can’t wait until next fall!!

Truth Be Told Art

MOPS

I am not participating in MOPs this year, but since some of my good buddies are I have been able to do some special events with them. Most recently, we had a Mom’s Night In craft night and created our own canvas prints through Truth Be Told Art. An instructor came to the church with all the supplies we would need to work with and after a few hours and some detailed instruction, we all had our own masterpiece to bring home! A lot of the ladies had the same ideas when it came to colors but I had to branch out and go with my favs- navy, yellow, and red! It was such a fun evening, with an incredible testimony, and I am so proud to display my art on our mantel!

Fall in HHI

demo

Nothing like a little demo to end our vacation! My dad bought a house in Hilton Head at the beginning of October and the sisters all went out to celebrate. Right before we left, we decided to tackle taking down some built ins. Even the little boys got involved, though the shelves proved much sturdier built than we had thought haha We were able to practice pull ups and those things didn’t even budge.

Sunset Dolphin Cruise

We have been going to Hilton Head for nearly 30 years but somehow have never gone out on a dolphin cruise! All that changed in early October when a long time friend chartered a boat for our little family and we set off on a sunset excursion! The boat usually holds over forty people but we were lucky enough to have the whole thing to ourselves! Add some yummy apps, flowing wine, and a gorgeous sunset and we were in heaven. It’s like the dolphins knew to put on a show and when we got out into the open water they came right up to the boat to show off!

County Fair 2014

IMG_1407

When I think of fall fairs I envision chilly October nights and a eerie breeze blowing through the fairgrounds. Unfortunately where we live it is still hot as blazes in early fall so end up sweating our buns off instead haha We took the boys to free admission night at the fair and thank goodness it was free because neither one of them enjoyed it very much. We only rode a handful of rides before they had enough and we packed up to try again next year. Nolan only managed one ride (the train) which I actually had to remove him from because he was screaming bloody murder and the conductor made me get him. Oh well. Another reason we haven’t tried Disney World yet!!
